IowaWatch, run by the non-profit, non-partisan Iowa Center for Public Affairs Journalism, is one of 57 news organizations the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has selected for a one-month-long matching fund drive.
The foundation’s $1.5 million Knight News Match campaign started Monday, Dec. 19, and runs through Jan. 19. During that time Knight Foundation will match each donation IowaWatch receives up to $1,000 per individual gift, and up to $25,000 overall if we can raise that much.
Each $10 donated to IowaWatch becomes $20 for our news organization, founded in February 2010.
The foundation calls the Knight News Match “a call to action for everyone who believes in quality, trustworthy, in-depth journalism and the role nonprofit news organizations play in building strong communities.”
Other notable organizations in the match drive include the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism, Midwest Center for Investigative Reporting, Rocky Mountain PBS, and Center for Public Integrity, all of whom IowaWatch has worked with, and others such as Texas Tribune, Oklahoma Watch, the Center for Investigative Reporting/Reveal and Chalkbeat.
“We are honored that the foundation recognizes IowaWatch among a group of hard-working journalists across the nation. We also appreciate work the Institute for Nonprofit News, to which IowaWatch belongs, has done on behalf of IowaWatch and its other members to achieve this status,” IowaWatch Executive Director-Editor Lyle Muller said.
