I’m tired. I’m worn out. My energy has been sapped. I am tired of getting up every day and bracing myself to learn who or what, in the dawn’s early light, the president has demeaned, disparaged or mocked like a school kid. I long for the days when political leaders try to bring us together, rather than drive us apart.
There have not been a lot of bright spots since coronavirus began sickening Iowans. So far, 685 people have died in our state from the virus, and another 26,000 have been infected. Unemployment in Iowa is in the double digits. We have
already begun hearing of business owners throwing in the towel and closing permanently. But one thing has gone phenomenally well during the pandemic, and that was the primary election on June 2.
Voters showed strong interest in this year’s mid-term election in Iowa, so much so that one county ran out of ballots, election officials from across the state said when IowaWatch contacted them today.
Iowa voters avoided on Tuesday many of the polling problems of possible disruption or lines so long voting would be difficult that had been forecast, county auditors from across the state told IowaWatch in interviews.
One of every three Iowans – 37 percent – voted a straight ticket for the candidates of one political party in the 2014 general election, statistics the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office compiled for the first time revealed.
